Arthur C. Wittenberg

Arthur C. Wittenberg, age 98, of Nekoosa (town of Port Edwards) died Tuesday January 1, 2019 at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Port Edwards.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday January 7, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Edwards. Rev. Daniel Bohn will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9:30 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery with military rites by Nekoosa VFW Post #2359. Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Art was born May 2, 1920 in Nekoosa to Wilhelm and Elsa (Randecker) Wittenberg. He graduated from Nekoosa High School in 1937. Art proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945. He served on the Emirau Island as an airman turret gunner of the first Marine Air Wing on a B-25 attaining the rank of Staff Sargent.
Art raised fox and ran a dairy farm from 1945 – 1962. He was in the mink business in later years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the US Fur Breeders Association, a member of the Nekoosa VFW and the financial secretary of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in the 1940’s. He was also a member of the Port Edwards Town Board from 1964 to 1975.
He is survived by his sister Esther Ogilvie of Wisconsin Rapids, brother Frederick (Lillian) Wittenberg of Nekoosa, sister in law Marion Wittenberg of Wisconsin Rapids, nieces and nephews John Ogilvie, Joann King, Jane Umnus, Barbara Woodward, Beverly Durant and Steve Wittenberg.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Wittenberg, brother in law Robert Ogilvie and his niece Suzanne Konopacki.
The Wittenberg family would like to thank Colleen Yusten for her dedicated care and also the staff of Edgewater Haven for the care given to Art.
