Port Edwards Blackhawks

For the Rapids City Times

GRESHAM – The Port Edwards Blackhawks traveled to Gresham Jan. 4 and hung on to a hard-fought victory over the Gresham Wildcats, 65-59.

Port Edwards was up by five heading into halftime, 32-27. They jumped out early in the second half to an 11-point lead fueled behind six straight points by Kaitlyn Lyp, who led all scorers with 28 points followed by Jade Martin with 14. The Wildcats, however, kept fighting back behind some hot shooting of their own, connecting on five 3-pointers in the second half – three by Hannah Cerveny and two by Makalya Belongia.

Gresham was able to cut the lead down to just three, but couldn’t get any closer as the Blackhawks hung on to claim the victory.
