December 31

Gas station theft

At 8:11 a.m., an employee of a Nekoosa gas station reported a theft. The employee was able to provide vehicle information of the suspect. Nekoosa Police responded and located the vehicle. A 20-year-old male was arrested and taken to Wood County Jail.

January 1

New Year’s Eve parking lot party

At 1:23 a.m., a Pittsville Police officer was doing his rounds and found four young adults sitting in the gas station parking lot. All four of the youths had been drinking and failed breathalyzer tests. The underage teenagers were released to their parents.

January 2

Machine shed fire

At 2:55 a.m., a fire was called into the Arpin Fire Department. A machine shed had started fire. Arpin, Auburndale, Pittsville, Richfield, and Vesper volunteer fire departments responded to the scene. They were able to contain the fire and no damage was done to the residence nearby. The shed, however, was a total loss. The owners lost several tractors in the fire.

Car in ditch report leads to arrest

At 10:02 p.m., a man called to report a car in the ditch in the town of Cary. A deputy arrived and found a 17-year-old male in the car with drug-related items. The male was detained. The car was pulled out with damage. The owner of the vehicle was told that if the car wasn’t removed from the roadside by morning, it would be towed.

January 3

Ex-boyfriend tries to sabotage new relationship

At 11:37 a.m., a Vesper woman reported that her ex-boyfriend, a 32-year-old man, had sent an inappropriate photo he had of her to the woman’s new male roommate. He also made vulgar remarks about the woman to the new roommate, who he believes to be a new boyfriend. A deputy warned the man about his behaviors.

January 5

Criminal damage in Port Edwards

At 9:03 a.m., a Port Edwards man called to report that there were several mailboxes that had been smashed in his neighborhood, as well as a speed limit sign that had been spray-painted. An officer was able to speak to a neighbor that has hunting cameras set up in the area. Investigation is open.
