WISCONSIN RAPIDS – On Jan. 26, Wisconsin Rapids Police responded to an accident on the 700 block of 17th Avenue South, in which a vehicle struck a utility pole.

The driver, a 19-year-old male, was transported to Marshfield Medical Center via Wisconsin Rapids ambulance, where he was pronounced dead at 9:26 p.m.

Rapids police say speed and alcohol are believed to be a factor. The investigation is ongoing. The name of the driver is not being released, pending family notification.
