WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Mead Witter Foundation, Inc. has awarded a $9,500 grant to McMillan Library to fund four concerts in 2019.
Traditional Jazz ensemble The Fat Babies will return on March 28. The Fat Babies are a seven piece band that interprets the classic styles of the 1920s and 1930s. Members of the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra will present a chamber music concert on Sept. 28. The Monteverdi Chorale, featuring vocalists from Central Wisconsin, will present “Lessons and Carols” on Dec. 12. This concert will include carols from around the world, along with familiar sing-alongs. The date of the fourth concert has not yet been finalized.
All concerts will take place in the library’s Fine Arts Center and at 7 p.m. These events are fully sponsored and no tickets are required, though seating in the Fine Arts Center may be limited.
The Foundation also provided $750 in support of McMillan’s solar project. The library installed a $420,000 235 Kw rooftop solar system in 2017. McMillan is fundraising the final $40,000 to complete purchase of the project.
Library Director Andy Barnett notes that, “The Foundation’s ongoing support of McMillan Library is deeply appreciated by the library board, the staff, and by the thousands of community members who make use of the library. This grant enriches our programming and the community.”
