Wisconsin Rapids Shopko to close
By Rapids City Times staff
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wisconsin Rapids Shopko store will close its doors. The announcement came March 18 through a press release from the Wisconsin-based company.
Wisconsin Rapids is one of 120 stores added to the list of store closures, which also includes the Adams Hometown store.
On Jan. 16, the operator of general merchandise stores throughout the Central, Western and Pacific Northwest regions of the U.S., announced that it, along with its subsidiaries, had filed voluntary petitions for a court-supervised financial restructuring under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code.
In February, the company listed 250 stores it intended to close while retaining 120, including the Wisconsin Rapids store, to sell to a potential buyer.
Unable to find a buyer, Shopko has now announced that it will close the remaining 120 stores as well.
“This is not the outcome that we had hoped for when we started our restructuring efforts,” Shopko CEO Russ Steinhorst said in a statement. “We want to thank all of our teammates for their hard work and dedication during their time at Shopko.”
The sales are scheduled to be completed by June 16.
