Nekoosa powerlifters to compete in nationals

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Two Nekoosa High School powerlifters will advance to national competition after three students competed in the Wisconsin High School Powerlifting Association state tournament held earlier this month in Appleton.
During state competition Kaden Downing, sophomore, squatted 365 pounds, benched 255 pounds, and deadlifted 435 pounds for a total weight of 1055. Emily Brown, freshman, squatted 226 pounds, benched 127 pounds, and deadlifted 282 pounds for a total weight of 634.
Logan Cleary, sophomore, set four state high school records – squatting 672 pounds, benching 429 pounds, and deadlifting 644 pounds for a 1747 pound total. Logan also set three national records for 16-year-old bench, deadlift, and total weight lifted. Cleary took first place, claiming heavyweight state champion.
Logan Cleary will lift in the 2019 USA Powerlifting High School National championship in Varsity 120 plus, and Kaden Downing will compete in Junior Varsity 105 in Alexandria, LA, this week.
