Vesper history

The village of Vesper grew up around a sawmill and store that was constructed by the Girand and Drape Company in 1874. The community continued to develop until a fire destroyed the mill and 23 homes in 1894. The fire destroyed much of the timber in the area and the lumber mill never regained its momentum. The area soon turned to dairy farming. Marlys Steckler collection photo
