WISCONSIN RAPIDS – A Nekoosa woman has pleaded no contest in Wood County Court for the Aug. 5, 2017, death of Marshfield native, Tyler Manthe.
Taylor J. Owczynsky, 24, was charged with two felony counts resulting from the accident.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 3:58 a.m. on Aug. 5, authorities responded to a two-vehicle crash in the area of State Highway 13 near Evergreen Avenue in the town of Saratoga. Investigators determined that a southbound vehicle, driven by Owczynsky, crossed over the center line, striking a northbound vehicle, driven by Manthe.
Owczynsky had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.15 percent – almost double the state limit.
Manthe was airlifted to the Marshfield Medical Center with serious injuries. He was later pronounced dead.
Owczynsky was found guilty and will be sentenced July 18 for homicide by use of a vehicle with a PAC. The charge comes with a maximum sentence of 25 years and $100,000.
A second charge – homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle – was dismissed.
