For the Rapids City Times

NEW LONDON  – The New London Sturgeon Shuffle 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk on April 27 went off without a hitch despite cooler temperatures and last minute course revisions due to continued wet conditions in the week leading up to the event.

As part of the event, the Sturgeon Shuffle Committee presented $14,000 in donations to three area backpack organizations. These not-for-profit organizations coordinate with schools to provide backpacks of food to students during the school year, so that they have enough food to eat on weekends. Donations were based upon each organization’s scope of service as well as sponsor and participant support. Rapids Family Backpacks, which serves the Wisconsin Rapids School District including the community of Rudolph, was presented with a check for $1,000.
