Riverkings sign Sun Prairie forward
By Mackenzie Boivin
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Riverkings have signed forward, Roger Schoenike, from Sun Prairie.
Coach Quarters commented on Schoenike’s size, “This is a big signing for the Riverkings because Roger not only has the size and skill all teams look for in a dominant power forward, he also has outstanding character and the potential you want on the ice and off the ice in our community, which is a big win.
“Roger is young with three years of junior hickey still ahead of him and looks to be a player with a high ceiling, that through hard work, should result in moving up to the NCDC or NAHL. Although he went back to play his senior year of high school hockey, Roger has over a full season of junior hockey experience. We are very excited for our fans to watch this 6’6” 220 forward impose his will on our competition.”
Roger’s high school coach and former Riverkings Captain Austin Luxford had high praise for his player, “(Roger is) very skilled for his size with a great shot. More importantly he’s one of the best locker room guys I’ve ever had. Always has a smile on his face, always is having fun, but flips that switch as soon as it’s game time and puts it all on the ice for the entirety of the game. Great player, outstanding person, phenomenal teammate.”
Schoenike will join the Riverkings for the 2019-2020 season.
