WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Volunteers completed work on a local veteran’s existing ramp and deck, as part as an ongoing effort to assist veterans will proper facilities in their home.
“(The group) remodeled an existing ramp and deck for a local veteran,” Tim Halverson said. “The current ramp was built unsafe by the previous home owner; also, the existing deck hand handrails that were not proper for the application.”
The work was completed by a team of volunteers, including two members of Masonic Lodge No. 128, Wisconsin Rapids; a volunteer from Solarus, local disabled veterans, and a team from the Wisconsin Rapids Home Depot store.
“The reason we (Team Depot) became involved was the veteran’s daughter came into the Wisconsin Rapids Home Depot Store looking for help because her father tripped and went to reach for the handrail and it failed, causing the veteran to fall and sustain a head injury,” Halverson explained.
Halverson said that the group plans to complete a minimum of eight other projects in the area.
