For the City Times

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wood County Sheriff’s Department, along with Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, Marshfield Police Department, Nekoosa Police Department, Port Edwards Police Department, Grand Rapids Police Department and Pittsville Police Department will mobilize for speed, seat belt and reckless driving enforcement throughout the summer.

Law enforcement agencies throughout Wood County will begin joint efforts focusing on speed, seat belt, and reckless driving on Wood County roadways with zero tolerance. Law enforcement considers these driving offenses to contribute to the majority of traffic crash-related fatalities.

Speed was ranked No. 1 for traffic law convictions in Wisconsin for 2018, with over 171,000 convictions. Speed related crashes killed 155 people on Wisconsin roadways.

Enforcement efforts will be directed towards State Highway 13, State Highway 54, and State Highway 73. The focus will be during high traffic time frames, when traffic crashes are more likely. The first coordinated enforcement date will be June 26.
