Sturdy recognized as Teacher of the Year
By Rapids City Times staff
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Rebecca Sturdy of Rudolph has been named Skyward’s Central Wisconsin Teacher of the Year. Sturdy received recognition for the award on June 25, as the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters hosted the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders during the annual Skyward Educators Appreciation Night at Witter Field.
Sturdy found out she had won the award a few months ago while teaching fifth grade at Grant Elementary.
Sturdy’s award was based on essays submitted by students last fall.
As part of the Rafters’ Educator Appreciation night, Sturdy joined former Green Bay Packer and Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Jerry Kramer in throwing out ceremonial first pitches to start the game. She was also presented with a commemorative bobblehead created in her likeness, which will be added to the Skyward Central Wisconsin Teacher of the Year Bobblehead Wall of Fame at Witter Field. Any student who submitted an essay received four tickets to last night’s game, a Rafters mock jersey, and an autographed baseball from the 2019 Rafters team.
Sturdy is a native of Escanaba, MI, and is going into her 20th year as an educator. She will be teaching fourth grade at Howe Elementary this fall.
