For the City Times

FOND DU LAC – The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (20-13) put together two dominant performances to sweep a doubleheader against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (13-20) on June 29.

The Rafters offense exploded in game one, racking up 12 hits on their way to an 11-6 win. The Wisconsin Rapids defense stifled the Dock Spiders in the nightcap, holding them to one run in a 4-1 victory.

The Rafters opened the scoring in the top of the first of game one on a sacrifice fly by CJ Willis. They extended their lead to 3-0 in the third with two more runs. Over the next two innings, Fond du Lac pulled within 3-2, but Wisconsin Rapids would run away with the game.

In the top of the fifth, Peter Matt and Davion Downey had RBIs as the Rafters put up three runs to take a 6-2 lead. Jaylen Guy and CJ Willis both had RBI singles in the sixth to add another three runs and Guy added another RBI in a two-run seventh inning.

The Dock Spiders threatened with four runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Izzy Fuentes held off the rally and earned the win. Starter Jack Sinclair went 3.1 innings, giving up just one hit. Dock Spiders starter Ryan Bader gets the loss.

In game two, the Rafters struck first again with three runs in the third inning that included a two-RBI double by Josh Nicoloff. The Dock Spiders got one back in the fifth, but Wisconsin Rapids padded their lead with an RBI by new Rafter Dylan Lonteen.

Wisconsin Rapids starter Matt Osterberg earns the win with five strikeouts in five innings. Jimmy Borzone gets the save with two clean innings of work in relief. Fond du Lac’s starter Connor Cook is credited with the loss.
