Four Rafters named Northwoods League All-Stars

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Four members of the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters were selected for the 2019 Northwoods League All-Star Game, the league announced July 5.
Pitchers Neil Abbatiello and Matt Osterberg, along with outfielder Richie Schiekofer and catcher Jake Dunham, will represent Wisconsin Rapids on July 16 at the All-Star Game in Waterloo, IA.
Schiekofer, who leads the Rafters in batting average, is currently hitting .367 with a .480 on-base percentage. The sophomore from Rutgers has 12 RBIs and is tied for the team lead with nine stolen bases. He also ranks second in the league in batting average and had a 21-game on-base streak that ran from the beginning of the season to June 18.
Dunham picked up where right where he left off in his return to Wisconsin Rapids this summer. The Northern Illinois junior has notched 31 RBIs this season to lead the team and rank third in the league. He is also hitting .314 and slugging .500.
As a left-handed pitcher, Abbatiello finished the first half with a 3-1 record and 1.21 ERA in six starts. The Wagner product fanned 33 batters in 29.2 innings and gave up just 18 hits. In his most recent start, Abbatiello struck out three batters and gave up three hits over six innings to get the win over Fond du Lac.
Matt Osterberg leads the Rafters with 32.1 innings pitched. Through five starts, Osterberg has a 4-1 record and a 2.78 ERA. The St. Cloud State sophomore has also fanned 28 batters this summer and walked only six.
