For the City Times

FOND DU LAC/KOKOMO, IN – The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters scored first and came back late, but ultimately could not hang on in a 4-2 loss to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders on July 6.

CJ Willis had a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to put the Rafters on the board first, but Fond du Lac took the lead on a two-RBI double by Zeb Adreon. Trailing 2-1 in the eighth inning, Peter Matt reached on an error and Roman Trujillo scored to tie the game 2-2.

In the bottom of the inning, Andrew Bullock hit a two-RBI single to give Fond du Lac the lead. Wisconsin Rapids brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning, but could not complete the comeback.

Rafters reliever Jimmy Borzone is credited with the loss in 2.1 innings of work. Fond du Lac’s Jack Snyder earns the win out of the bullpen. The Rafters are now 6-2 against the Dock Spiders this season.

The Rafters then improved to above .500 for the second half with a 6-5 road win over the Kokomo Jackrabbits on July 7.

The Rafters struck first in the opening frame when Josh Nicoloff scored on a Balk to take a 1-0 lead. Rapids then built a 4-0 lead with RBIs by Davion Downey, Osvaldo Tovalin and Edarian Williams in the third inning.

After Kokomo got a run back in the bottom of the third, Downey answered with an RBI double to give Wisconsin Rapids a 5-1 lead. Kokomo chipped away at the Rafters lead and tied the game in the bottom of the eighth.

Roman Trujillo drove in a run with a bunt single in the ninth to put the Rafters back on top 6-5. Brayden Bonner closed out a clean ninth inning to get the win for the Rafters. Kenny Johnson is credited with the loss in relief for the Jackrabbits.
