Wood County crash leaves one dead

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – A July 30 early-morning crash in Wood County has left one person dead. The crash occurred at 2 a.m. on State Highway 73 at Seventh Drive in the Wood County town of Rome.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle was heading east on Highway 73, and the driver failed to negotiate the curve at Seventh Drive. The vehicle left the roadway on the south side of Highway 73, struck a driveway embankment, and was airborne for a short distance.
Two people were in the vehicle, and one was pronounced dead at the scene. The other person was airlifted to the Marshfield Medical Center by the Spirit helicopter.
The crash closed Highway 73 between County Highway U and Oak Street for a short time. The State Patrol is assisting the Rome Police Department in investigating the crash.
