Rafters lose tight contest against Kingfish

KENOSHA – The first-place Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (20-11) led most of the way, but ultimately dropped a 6-5 decision to the Kenosha Kingfish (10-21) in game one on Aug. 5.
Jake Dunham doubled to bring in a run in the first inning, and Davion Downey and Dunham both tallied RBI singles in the third inning as the Rafters built a 3-2 lead through the first three innings. In the fifth, Aidan Huggins scored on an error and Anthony Galason added to the lead with an RBI double in the sixth.
The Kingfish rallied in the seventh and took a 6-5 lead that they would never relinquish. Rafters starter Matt Osterberg pitched five innings, giving up just two runs on five hits and striking out five. Cal Djuraskovic gets the loss for Wisconsin Rapids and reliever Jonah Landowski gets the win for Kenosha.
Wisconsin Rapids will send six players to this week’s Major League Dream Showcase in Madison before travelling back to Kenosha for game two on Aug. 7. When the team returns to Historic Witter Field on Aug. 8, they will face the Madison Mallards.
