For the Rapids City Times

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The city of Wisconsin Rapids is asking the public to weigh in on new dog park facilities.

The “Tails ‘n’ Trails Dog Park” has been open to the public since 2009, at the corner of County Highway F and Bonow Avenue. Advanced Disposal, the company that owns and maintains the land, leased it to the city for public outdoor dog recreation.

Advanced Disposal recently made the decision not to renew the lease with the city, which expires Aug. 31.

A temporary location on 1st Street South, between the Wastewater Treatment Facility and South Wood County Airport, has been recommended as a dog recreation area. The location would offer a fenced in area for residents to bring their dogs for exercise and play. The facility may be made available as a long-term plan is sought.

This location will require Airport Commission and Town of Grand Rapids approvals that may occur as soon as September.

A survey is available for public input at tinyurl.com/y53h7ju8 and on the city’s website on the Parks & Recreation > Dog-Friendly Parks page, and is available until Sept. 1.

For more information, contact Wisconsin Rapids Parks and Recreation at 715-421-8240 or parksdepartment@wirapids.org.
