Alexander House exhibit to feature Wisconsin River Woodcarvers
For the Rapids City Times
PORT EDWARDS – The Alexander House Center for Art and History will welcome the Wisconsin River Woodcarvers, Inc., during an opening reception on Aug. 30, 5-8 p.m.
The group was formed Feb. 1, 1995, when a group of 18 carvers gathered in the basement of a local woodcarver to form a carvers club. Wisconsin River Woodcarvers, Inc. was created on March 31, 2001.
Today, the nearly 130-strong group continues to meet regularly at various locations. Each year, the club brings in two to three nationally-known instructors to provide classes.
Three charter members remain in the club – Sophie Kubisiak, Diane Swiggum, and Greg Wirtz.
Club members’ artwork will be on display through Oct. 15 and include a wide variety of styles and subject matter from wall pieces to carvings in the round.
The Alexander House is located at 1131 Wisconsin River Drive, Port Edwards. For more information, call 715-887-3442, find them on Facebook, or visit alexanderhouseonline.org.
