USDA extends deadline for Dairy Margin Coverage program

LA CROSSE – The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has extended the deadline to sign up for the Dairy Margin Coverage program to Sept. 27.
The program offers protection for dairy farmers when the difference between the all-milk price and the average feed cost falls below a certain dollar amount selected by the producer.
“Wisconsin dairy farms are the backbone to our state’s economy, but the last few years have been tough for our farmers,” said State Representative Ron Kind. “As the farming community continues to face huge challenges on everything from access to global markets, to lower dairy prices, to workforce, I encourage folks to take advantage of this program. Stop by a local office before September 27th and sign up.”
Earlier this year, Rep. Kind introduced his Dairy Action Plan to help struggling dairy farmers as they deal with everything from the ongoing trade war with China to consecutive years of low dairy prices.
