MIDDLETON – The Nekoosa Lady Papermakers golf team entered their first WIAA Regional Tournament on Oct. 2 at Pleasant View Golf Course in Middleton.

They were stacked against heavy favorites, including defending state champion, Madison Edgewood, but the ladies took the challenge in stride.

The weather was not ideal with rain, wind, and cold adding to the challenge of a very wet course.

When scores were tallied the team finished in sixth place, only seven strokes shy of qualifying for sectionals, as a team.

Jade Hildebrand led Nekoosa with a 97, finishing in 11th place and will be the first Lady Papermaker to compete at sectionals as she makes it to the next round as an individual qualifier.

Izzy Escamilla finished her sophomore season with a 108, earning 22nd place, Gwen Moffett with a 119 in 32nd, Hailey Brown with a 120 in 34th, and Kit Krotzman with a 157 in 44th.

Jade will travel to Prairie du Chien for sectionals on Oct. 8 and looking for a trip to the state championship in Madison.
