For the City Times

TOWN OF ROME – The site which the Sand Valley Golf Resort currently sits on was once the lakebed of an ancient glacial lake that covered much of Central Wisconsin. In roughly 16,000 BC the ice dam protecting the glacial lake burst, causing a catastrophic flood event that emptied the entire 150-foot deep lake in just two days, creating what is now the Wisconsin Dells. The sandy lakebed where the site now sits became exposed and over time blew into the 80-foot high dunes and valleys.

Sand Valley features three golf courses: Sand Valley, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, opened May 2017; Mammoth Dunes, created by David McLay Kidd, opened the summer of 2018; and The Sandbox, designed by Coore & Crenshaw, opened in spring 2018.

Sand Valley local appreciation

Sand Valley Golf Resort is hosting its local appreciation special through Oct. 21. Wood and Adams County property owners can take advantage of special discounted rates and yearly special rates, plus get a free hat with their game.

Sand Valley Golf Resort is located at 1697 Leopold Way in Rome. For more information, call 715-325-9500 or email reservations@sandvalley.com.
