NEKOOSA – The Nekoosa football team took down Wautoma in a South Central Conference matchup in Nekoosa on Oct. 18.

After a scoreless first quarter, Nekoosa and Wautoma both scored in the second, with Nekoosa’s coming from a Trent Waltenberg touchdown run and a Bret Mckeel extra point. This ended the first half with a 7-7 tie.

Waltenberg and Mckeel paired another touchdown run and extra point to take the lead in the third quarter, but Wautoma came back to tie it up, 14-14.

However, the Papermakers gained momentum, adding a Jace Lobner touchdown run and a Mckeel extra point in the third, followed by two more touchdown runs in the fourth – one by Sawyer Kniprath and the other from Waltenberg – along with two Mckeel extra-point kicks. This ended scoring for the night at 35-14.

Waltenberg led in rushing, with 96 yards, while Cordero Ysquierdo was the lead receiver with 46 yards.

Nekoosa ends the season 4-3 in conference.
