For the City Times

NEKOOSA – Alexander Middle School (AMS) students were making a difference in their community on Oct. 17, as they traveled through the community raking leaves.

“I have been coordinating Make A Difference Day in the Nekoosa community for the past four years,” AMS School Counselor Corey Anfinson explained. “The middle school students participate by raking the lawns for local elderly people as well as cleaning up trash and debris from the downtown area, Riverside Park, city cemetery, school grounds, bike trails, etc.”

“The event takes several weeks to plan and coordinate and it’s an ‘all hands on deck’ approach for school staff. Everybody participates in some way, and we are all very proud that we are able to provide this service to the local community.

“We welcome referrals for yards; anyone can call the Alexander Middle School Guidance Office if they know someone who could benefit from having their yard raked and sticks or branches picked up.”
