TOWN OF ROME – Sand Valley is instituting the Sand Valley Culinary Institute, a new development training program for the hospitality industry.  Sand Valley will give students the chance to enroll in the program on full scholarship. Tuition for 12 applicants will be paid for by Sand Valley in 2020 with the addition of another 12 applicants in 2021.

Through a partnership with Mid-State Technical College, Sand Valley will lead the creation of a new 2020 student curriculum that provides culinary training and education for a hospitality career. The program, developed with input and guidance from Sand Valley’s culinary director, incorporates a robust student experience that includes education in menu planning, food production, sanitation for food service operations, and culinary applications.

The curriculum concludes with a seven-month summer apprenticeship at Sand Valley to provide students with practice work experience in the hospitality industry. Students enrolled in the program will also receive a ServSafe Manager Certification and earn 10 credits at Mid-State Technical College.

Classes for the program will begin on January 7, 2020.

“The curriculum for the Sand Valley Culinary Institute will focus on giving students the practical skills they need to prepare for a career in the hospitality industry, not just a job,” said Sand Valley Culinary Director Jon Keeley. “Through this new program, students will be introduced to a wide range of topics within the industry, hone their skills, and be better positioned to serve guests and create world-class culinary experiences.”

Applications for the Sand Valley Culinary Institute are available at Sandvalley.com/culinary-institute-application. For more information, call 888-651-5539, email [email protected], or visit www.sandvalley.com/culinary-institute.
