Bomb squad called in for Wisconsin Rapids incident

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marathon County Bomb Squad was called in for an incident on 10th Avenue North in the city of Wisconsin Rapids.
According to a Wisconsin Rapids Police Department release, officers were called to a location on 10th Avenue on Nov. 7, shortly after 9:30 a.m., to speak with an individual who was slumped over the wheel of a car.
The subject was revived by officers. While the individual was being questioned, officers discovered a suspicious device in a backpack located in the vehicle. Out of caution, the department contacted the bomb squad, who investigated and determined the device was “a cardboard tube containing welding rods.”
The release said that “at no point was the public in danger.”
