County Land Conservation Department to host plant event
For the City Times
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wood County Land Conservation Department is hosting their 2020 tree, shrub and native wildflower event, offering American hazelnut, balsam fir, bur oak, elderberry, red osier dogwood, sugar maple, white birch, white pine, and white spruce.
Tree and shrub bundles contain 25 trees and sizes range from five to 24 inches.
New varieties of Wisconsin native prairie wildflower seeds will be offered, including: Pollinator Mixes, Native Honeybee Mixes, Monarch Mixes, Erosion Control Mixes, Land Restoration Mixes and Grass Waterways Mixes.
Generic gel, tree shelters, and tree spades are also available at all times throughout the year. Generic gel is a starch absorbent that retains water and gives it back to the plant during dry periods. Tree shelters are four-foot plastic, seamless, twin-walled tubes; they protect newly planted seedlings from wildlife damage.
Orders are due Jan. 17.
