Riverkings lose weekend battles against Blue Ox

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings hosted the Minnesota Blue Ox Feb. 7-8, where they lost both battles on ice.

On Friday, the Riverkings fought hard during the game and outshot the Blue Ox 44-30. Scoring first for the Riverkings was Colton Flammini, with assists from Brayden Uttech and Jordan Stear.

The Blue Ox then scored three goals before the Riverkings would find the net again. This time Haralds Jirgens found one, with the assist from Uttech and Flammini. Minnesota then scored one more goal to give them the 4-2 win.

Goalie Matt Server had 26 saves on the night.

Minnesota claimed the victory once again on Saturday.

The game started off with Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings Markus Cook making a goal in the first period, assisted by Stear and Jirgens. Early in the second period, the Blue Ox tied up the score, 1-1.

The second period ended with a 3-3 tie after both teams scored two more goals. Scoring for the Riverkings was Brayden Uttech, assisted by Cook and Cole Creger, and Creger with :55 left in the second period, assisted by Adrian Sel and Logan Harris.

In the third period, the Blue Ox scored right away on a power play to up the score 4-3.

In the final minutes of the game, Uttech received a penalty for boarding and the Blue Ox scored again on a power play with :30 left on the clock, winning 5-3.

Wisconsin Rapids goalie, Giuliano Latella had 25 saves on the night.

The Riverkings will be on the road Feb. 15-16 to face the Rum River Mallards and will host their final regular season games on Feb. 21-22, against the Steele County Blades.
