WISCONSIN RAPIDS – A Nekoosa man has been formally charged for the murder of his girlfriend’s 20-year-old mentally and physically disabled daughter.

On Jan. 17, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Wood County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting that a female in her 20s was found unresponsive at a home in the city of Nekoosa. The caller described the female as a paraplegic that is unable to walk or talk.

Emergency responders performed life-saving measures, but they were unsuccessful and the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy was performed and it was determined that the victim, Samantha M. Roberts, of Nekoosa, died as a result of severe head trauma.

On Jan. 20, Paul M. Carter, 43, of Nekoosa, was arrested for first degree intentional homicide and booked into the Wood County Jail.

On March 3, Carter was formally charged in Wood County Court with first-degree intentional homicide.

Carter remains in the Wood County Jail.
