On the hunt for organ and tissue donation

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Central Wisconsin Gift of Life will host their sixth annual scavenger hunt on April 18, at Ridges Golf Course, 2311 Griffith Avenue, Wisconsin Rapids.
The event is designed to raise awareness and funds for organ and tissue donation programs.
Teams of four to six people compete by performing various activities of their choice from a preapproved list, provided at the start of the race.
Central Wisconsin Gift of Life was founded by Jill Dillon, Sara Solinsky, and Kathy Gehrke as a group of organ and tissue recipients, donors, and donor families who are passionate about the life-saving gift.
Dillon said that the event originated out of a previous event in which several members participated.
“A few of us used to participate in a scavenger hunt with an organ donation awareness group in Wausau,” she explained. “When they discontinued their event we decided to start our own organ and tissue donation awareness group and do a scavenger hunt here in the Wisconsin Rapids area.
“We now have an entire committee of volunteers who meet at least once a month, planning the hunt and other events throughout the year.”
Since the first year, the event continues to grow – ballooning from 12 to 51 teams.
All of our proceeds are donated to University of Wisconsin Organ and Tissue Donation and Restoring Hope Transplant House in Middleton.
“Both of these organizations serve many people from the Wisconsin Rapids area,” Dillon added.
