WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Mid-State Technical College students earned top awards in the Workplace Skills Assessment Program (WSAP) Competitive Events at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) Wisconsin State Leadership Conference held in Wausau at the end of February.

Business Management student and vice president of Mid-State’s BPA chapter Tiffany Marshall, Wisconsin Rapids, placed first for her presentation in Human Resource Management, a judged event assessing the student’s interpretation of personnel policies and knowledge of human resource management. Marshall also placed sixth in Management, Marketing and Human Resources Concepts.

Digital Marketing student and BPA chapter communications officer Hannah Guerrero, Plover, placed first in Digital Marketing Concepts. Accounting student Jennifer Mauritz, Marshfield, placed second in College Payroll Accounting and sixth in Financial Math & Analysis Concepts. Business Management student and president of the BPA chapter Rhonda Martinson placed sixth in Business Meeting Management Concepts.

“I’m incredibly proud of how our students performed in BPA’s state leadership conference,” said Mid-State Business Technology Instructor and BPA chapter advisor Sharon Behrens. “I know how hard each one of them has worked in her classes, and it’s a thrill to see that effort pay off with these outstanding results.”

According to Behrens, this is the second year Mid-State’s BPA club participated in the WSAP Competitive Events at BPA’s state conference since reinstating the club in fall 2018.

“As Mid-State’s chapter continues to grow in the years to come, we look forward to supporting many more students in BPA’s state and national competitions,” she said.

Placing in the top five for their judged and non-judged events qualified Marshall and Mauritz to compete in the BPA National Conference, originally scheduled for May, but that event is now canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
