Letter to the Editor: Time for a change
Mayor Vruwink has pushed his vanity projects on the people of Wisconsin Rapids for too long while turning every election into a popularity contest. He’s mortgaged the city’s roads, services, and future for an aquatic center that will only be used three to four months of the year.
Other than Matalco, some restaurants and small retail establishments; where are the jobs that have been promised every year he’s run for re-election? The mill and Walmart are the two largest employers in town. A lot of people have to drive to Wausau, Stevens Point, Plover, or Marshfield to find decent paying jobs. 17 percent of residents are at or below the poverty level and can’t afford to drive out of town for better paying jobs. So I ask again, where are the jobs we were promised?
The population continues to decrease, our roads are in shambles, city services are reduced every year, but we’ve got more parks and water slides than ever before.
I’m tired of having taxes go up only to see roads unplowed, dodging potholes everywhere, and packing leaves into a paper bag or hauling them to the compost site. We need a mayor that understands the issues we face and will do something about them.
Mayor Vruwink does not understand or listen to the citizens of this city. It’s time to give someone else a chance to turn things around and get Wisconsin Rapids back on the right path.
Don’t be fooled by all of the appearances or updates on social media. Mayor Vruwink only makes himself visible when there is an election around the corner.
Vote Shane Blaser for Wisconsin Rapids mayor in 2020.
