Why did you choose UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield?
I chose UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield for multiple reasons, including class size, cost and location. I come from a small townand graduated high school with around 350 students, so the small Marshfield community appealed to me. It also allows for more personal relationships with professors and peers. Tuition is very affordable, which currently leaves me with no student loans or debt.
What surprised you the most about the university when you arrived on campus?
I quickly learned how college is completely different than high school. You must apply yourself and show up to classes.
How or when did you discover your purpose? How did UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield faculty/staff help?
My purpose is to help people. I enjoy forming connections and helping people, even with the smallest of tasks. The staff and faculty are helping me realize my purpose.
Why did you choose your program/major?
I am “people person” and enjoy helping others, which is why I want to be a nurse. The medical field is large, allowing for many job opportunities. I obtained my Certified NursingAssistant degree in high school and worked at an assisted living facility. Recently I started working as a perioperative assistant at Marshfield Clinic. I work in outpatient surgery and assist the nurses with preparing patients for surgeries. It is an amazing environment. I love the hand-on aspect of my job.
Who has been your favorite professor or staff member?
My favorite professors are Sandra Neumann and Laura Lee. I have taken psychology and biology classes with them and have connected with both personally. I enjoy their teaching styles and personalities and recommend taking their classes.
In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time?
In my free time, I work and spend time with my family. College consumes most of my schedule, but I enjoy even watching movies or painting houses with my mom when time permits.
What do you plan to do after attending UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield?
I plan on enrolling in the UW-Eau-Claire Nursing Program at Marshfield to earn my bachelor’s degree.
To make the most of their college experience, what advice do you have for incoming students?
Stay caught up on your course workload and develop as many friendships as possible. I met many new people at UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield. They now are among my closest friends. Make the most of your college experience.
