ADAMS COUNTY – A Friendship man is being charged following a fatal hit and run in the town of Big Flats.

On May 17 at 6:29 p.m., deputies and emergency services responded to a report of a vehicle striking a person in the 1200 block of State Highway 13.

The investigation revealed that a northbound vehicle on State Highway 13 struck a female who was walking with a male pedestrian on the east shoulder of State Highway 13. The vehicle failed to stop at the scene and continued northbound on 13.

The female pedestrian was later pronounced dead.

Deputies later conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian. Matthew Olson, 41, of Friendship, was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.

An alleged charge of hit and run involving death is being referred to the Adams County District Attorney’s Office.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Nekoosa Ambulance, Big Flats First Responders, Wisconsin State Patrol, Adams Police Department, Rome Police Department, Adams County Highway Department, and the Adams County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The name of the victim is being held pending family notification.

No additional information is being released at this time.
