WISCONSIN RAPIDS – On June 1, John E. Alexander South Wood County YMCA opened its doors to members at its new facility at 601 West Grand Avenue in Wisconsin Rapids.

“For over five years the Y has worked hard to make this goal a reality and we are grateful for the community partners and supporters,” facility staff said in a release. “The new 78,000 square-foot facility provides premium modern amenities that offers fitness, wellness, aquatic, and childcare experience that will enhance the welcoming and nurturing environment we have provided since 1958.

“The Y is opening in phases as we work to protect the health and safety of our members, staff and community. During this first phase we will have new guidelines that will allow us to open with caution and abiding by local, state and national health guidelines and recommendations. We are being vigilant with cleaning and sanitizing by staff and managing occupancy levels while ensuring social distancing between members.

Hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 5 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Saturday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The facilities are closed on Sunday for “deep cleaning.”

“The YMCA has always been and will always be committed to serving the needs of our community. Our community is continually growing and changing, and as a Y we are dedicated to serving the community and building a better future for all. We are so proud of the new facility and welcome everyone that comes through our doors,” the release stated.
