For the City Times

NEKOOSA – Domtar will draw down the Wisconsin River above the Nekoosa Dam beginning Aug.13, to complete required repairs and maintenance to the structure.

“The water will be slowly lowered and be down a total of five feet by approximately Aug. 24. The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 24. The drawdown area will be above the dam north to Port Edwards,” a company release said.

“Domtar is providing public notice of this work but the project schedule may be altered due to weather concerns or government approvals of the work. Domtar appreciates the public’s understand during this repair.

“As a reminder, areas of exposed sediments can be a public safety hazard.  Exposed sediments and rocks can cause slipping and tripping hazards.  No one may remove items from the riverbed without obtaining the required permits.

The company said that the river water level will be returned to its normal level within two weeks of the Oct. 24 restart.
