Nelson, Thurber grab All-American honors

TIFFIN, OH – UW-Stevens Point women’s wrestlers Abby Nelson (Iron River) and Brooke Thurber (Nekoosa) picked up All-American honors with seventh-place finishes at the National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships on March 6.
Nelson won three matches on the day in the 116 bracket – all in the consolation bracket. She won by technical fall and then recorded a pair of falls to take seventh.
Thurber won two matches in the 101 consolation bracket. She picked up a technical fall victory and then pinned her opponent in the seventh-place match.
Freshman Savannah Hisel (LaValle) picked up a decision victory in the 143 consolation bracket. Morgan Bethea (Neillsville) competed at 123, Tabitha Breitrick (Clintonville) at 191 and Kelly Enriquez (Waukesha) in the 109 bracket for UWSP.
