Wisconsin Rapids Community Theatre returns May 21
For the City Times
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids Community Theatre will open on May 21 with the dark comedy, “Al Was Right” by Ryan Armstrong, directed by Michael Barrett.
The name of the show is based on a quote from Albert Einstein: “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”
Moments before World War IV but after the collapse of technology and order, the Mexi-American army prepares to defend their bunker against an invading army of Canadians, it is a hard time to find any sense of intelligence.
“As a member of WRCT for four decades, I have had the opportunity to read so many plays. People often recommend plays to me, and I usually pass those recommendations on to whomever may be the person in charge of reading and helping decide which plays to do each year. It is a collaborative effort, and this production is a great example of just that,” explained Barrett
Our Executive Director Tim Young put this in front of me and I liked it immediately. Al Was Right is topical, silly, fast-moving and full of quick witted dialogue and physical fun. The cast all took to the tone of the play instantly, and started having fun. They are all very sharp and funny.
“Our first few weeks of rehearsal have already come up with some gems, and the whole thing goes by very quickly each night. That’s a good sign.
“I can’t wait to put our first live production on stage in over a year, and hope everyone who wants to see it finds a way to join us. Tickets are limited, and I know there are lots of folks looking forward to being entertained again.”
Performances will be held May 21-22 at 7:30 p.m., and May 23 at 2 p.m. in the mainstage theatre at Wisconsin Rapids Community Theatre, located in the Centralia Center. Ticket info can be found at www.wrctheatre.org/alwasright or by calling 715-421-0435.
