Man escapes serious injury after attempted robbery

WOOD COUNTY – A man escaped serious injury after an attempted armed robbery involving a BB gun in south Wood County.
The incident occurred May 23, just before 11 p.m. on Church Avenue near Thunder Trail in the town of Saratoga.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, a man was driving along Church Avenue, when he came across a young man who was hunched over along the side of the road. When the motorist stopped to check on him, he displayed a BB gun and demanded the motorist’s
wallet. A brief confrontation ensued, and the suspect shot the motorist in the abdomen with one round from the BB gun, then fled on foot.
The man is described a clean-shaven man in his mid-20s, wearing a green t-shirt and blue jeans. The suspect has not yet been found, and the incident remains under investigation.
The victim received a minor injury which did not require medical attention.
Officers from the Grand Rapids, Port Edwards, and Nekoosa Police Departments assisted, along with the Nekoosa K-9 unit.
