Fatal accident closes Highway 73 for over six hours

WOOD COUNTY – A south Wood County woman is dead after she crashed her car into a semi. The crash occurred on Aug. 6, just before 1 p.m. on Highway 73 near Evergreen Avenue, in the Wood County town of Saratoga.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, 28-year-old Nina Tubbs of Wisconsin Rapids was going east on Highway 73, when she crossed the center line, and into the path of a westbound semi, driven by 46-year-old Michael Rybowicz of North Fond du Lac.
Tubbs was pronounced dead at the scene. Rybowicz was transported to Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids with minor injuries. Highway 73 was closed until shortly after 7:30 p.m., between Highways 13 and County Highway U. The Wood County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the State Patrol, Wood County Rescue, the Grand Rapids Police Department, Wisconsin Rapids, Grand Rapids and Nekoosa Fire Departments, Saratoga First Responders and the Wood County Highway Department.
The crash is still under investigation at this time.
