One person injured in Vesper stabbing incident

WOOD COUNTY – On Jan. 1, at approximately 12:01 a.m., Wood County deputies, Vesper First Responders, and Pittsville Ambulance responded to a call of a man who had been stabbed in the village of Vesper.
The man was found walking in the roadway.
“When deputies arrived on scene, contact was made with victim, stab wounds were observed and medical attention was given by first responders and ambulance,” a Wood County Sheriff’s release stated.
“The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.
“Wood County Sheriffs Deputies responded to the scene where the incident occurred. After a short standoff, the suspect was located inside the residence and was taken into custody with no further incident.”
The suspect was identified as David Kelm, 64.
The sheriff’s office said that the incident was isolated and there is no danger to the public.
The department was assisted by Vesper First Responders, Pittsville Ambulance, Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, Marshfield Police Department, Port Edwards Police Department, and Nekoosa Police Department.
The victim remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
