Redhawks hold off Chaparrals
FOR CITY TIMES
MARSHFIELD – The Rapids Redhawks captured their ninth win of the year July 8, when they defeated the Marshfield Chaparrals 9-5, at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield.
Marshfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Rapids exploded for four runs in the second and three more in the third, to grab a big lead early. The Redhawks tacked on two runs in the seventh, before the Chaps mounted a comeback attempt in the bottom of the ninth inning. A three-run rally fell short, however, and Rapids hung on for the road win.
Garrett Huber, Nate Jackan and Blaine Wahlen all had solid outings on the mound to hold the Chaps in check for most of the game. Offensively, Ryan Sering and Jacob Wipfli each had a pair of base hits. Wahlen, Cole Ladick, Caden Sengbusch and Caleb Krommenakker each had hits for the Redhawks as well.
According to www.rapidsredhawks.com, the Redhawks will host Pittsville July 13 at 7 p.m. and Westboro July 16 at 1 p.m. at the Rapids Area Sports Complex, before going on the road for games at Pittsville July 17 at 3 p.m., Everest July 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Plover July 20 at 7:30 p.m.
