WRCT presents “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”
FOR CITY TIMES
WISCONSIN RAPIDS — George, a professor at a small college, and his wife, Martha, daughter of the college’s president, return home, drunk from a Saturday night party. Amidst bickering, Martha announces that guests are coming over — a new, good-looking professor and his naïve wife. Drinks flow and inhibitions melt. It seems Martha is determined to seduce the young professor and George couldn’t care less. Underneath the edgy banter lurks tragedy, despair and sadness, but there’s love there, too. The couples play bitter “games,” meant to damage and destroy, and George and Martha finally agree to total war. Caught in a battle to the death, their deepest secrets are revealed, and no one leaves unscathed.
“It’s been a challenge both acting and directing, but my experienced cast has helped tremendously,” says Director Mystique Macomber. “They have brought so much to this production that I wouldn’t have on my own. It truly is a group effort. I appreciate them, their expertise, experience, and support,” she adds. “It’s also been a family affair, with my sons acting, stage managing, and supporting the production with tech during the performances. I’m grateful to them for help, ideas and continual support. I hope you enjoy this performance. It’s been a labor of love.”
Performances will be held Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27 and 28 at 7 p.m. in the Studio Theatre at Wisconsin Rapids Community Theatre, located in the Centralia Center. Ticket information can be found at: https://www.wrctheatre.org or by calling 715-421-0435.
Please note: WRCT Director’s Showcase plays in the Studio Theatre are more edgy than traditional Mainstage Theatre productions and may contain adult language and content.
