Nekoosa woman drowns in Wisconsin River

SARATOGA – A Nekoosa woman has died after drowning in the Wisconsin River in south Wood County.
According to a press release from the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, the 58-year-old woman’s body was pulled from the river early Saturday afternoon.
Wood County Central Dispatch received a report of a person in the Wisconsin River just north of Wakely Road in the Township of Saratoga.
The caller was able to bring the woman to shore. First responders arrived on scene and determined she was the victim of drowning.
There are no suspicious circumstances and no additional information will be released, according to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department.
Those responding included Wood County Sheriff’s deputies, Wood County Sheriff’s Rescue, the DNR, the Nekoosa Fire Department, Saratoga First Responders, Wisconsin Rapids Ambulance, Wood County Coroner’s office, the Nekoosa and Port Edwards police departments and the Biron, Grand Rapids, Port Edwards and Rome fire departments.
