Nekoosa drowning victim identified

SARATOGA – The Nekoosa woman who drowned in the Wisconsin River in south Wood County has been identified.

According to a press release from the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, 58-year-old Nancy Brost was pulled from the river early Saturday afternoon.

At 12:48 p.m. on April 29, Wood County Central Dispatch received a report of a person in the Wisconsin River just north of Wakely Road in the Township of Saratoga.

The caller was able to bring Brost to shore. First responders arrived on scene and determined she was the victim of drowning.

There are no suspicious circumstances and no additional information will be released, according to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department.

Those responding included Wood County Sheriff’s deputies, Wood County Sheriff’s Rescue, the DNR, the Nekoosa Fire Department, Saratoga First Responders, Wisconsin Rapids Ambulance, Wood County Coroner’s office, the Nekoosa and Port Edwards police departments and the Biron, Grand Rapids, Port Edwards and Rome fire departments.
