City Seeks to Renew Interest in New Dog Park
By Joe Bachman
WISCONSIN RAPIDS — City officials are calling on potential renewed interest in a new city dog park.
Details are currently being hammered out on property owned by Advanced Disposal on 17th Ave. North that has been used as the ‘Tails and Trails’ dog park. However, the difficulty has come with the fact that the park is volunteer run, which comes with some road blocks. City officials are weighing options and will meet with Advanced Disposal regarding the lease, as it is up in 2019.
“My hope is that if we put on the public agenda that folks will start taking an interest in it,” said Mayor Zach Vruwink. …”I do think this is an amenity that residents expect and that the community should offer. The city should find a way to accomplish it. It’s going to require partnership and some capital and a lot of elbow grease.”
Vruwink’s hope by bringing this up to the public is to gauge a voice and a community direction going forward in the matter. Efforts to build a dog park by Alexander Field have seemingly come to a halt from discussions earlier in the year.
Tails and Trails Dog Park is located at 2898 17th Ave. North.
