Local agencies to host drug takeback event
For the Rapids City Times
MARSHFIELD – On April 27, National Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) will coordinate a prescription drug takeback event throughout Wisconsin. Takeback events provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescriptions drugs, while also educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications.
Local law enforcement, in collaboration with Marshfield Clinic Health System, Marshfield Area Coalition for Youth (MACY), Groundwater Guardian, Healthy People Wood County, Wood County Health Department, and Wood County UW-Extension, will participate April 27, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the following locations: Pick ‘n Save (formerly Copps), Wisconsin Rapids; Pittsville Police Department; Walmart – Marshfield; and the Rome Police Department. Another collection will be held 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. that day at the Port Edwards Fire Department.
Items accepts include: prescription medication – controlled and non-controlled, over-the-counter medications, creams, liquids in original packaging, non-aerosol sprays, ointments, inhalers, patches, pet medications, and vials.
Those who cannot take advantage of the takeback days can drop off unwanted medications at a Wood County law enforcement agency or at the Marshfield Clinic Health System pharmacies.
