Marlene Holland
Marlene V. Holland, age 85, of Nekoosa, Wisconsin, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Nekoosa Court Assisted Living.
Funeral services for Marlene will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Nekoosa. Rev. Dennis Schwalenberg and Rev. Bill Fischer will officiate the service. The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday morning at the church from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.
Marlene was born on January 12, 1933 in Spring Valley, Wisconsin to the late Raymond and Mildred (Van de List) Wilhelm. She married George C. Holland on September 20, 1953 in Spring Valley. She worked over 30 years as an X-Ray technician and office manager at the Nekoosa Medical Center, retiring in 1991.
Marlene enjoyed playing cards, pinochle and bridge, reading and golfing. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Brewers, Packers, Badgers and especially the Nekoosa High School sports teams. As the “coach’s wife” Marlene enjoyed being around all the baseball teams George coached and was always their biggest fan. Marlene was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was a part of the church choir for years. She served her community by being a member of many civic organizations and served as the past president of the Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed watching the sunsets over Lake Petenwell where she resided with George for many years and loved spending time at the family cabin on Squirrel Lake by Minocqua where she was known to put on a great fish fry.
Marlene is survived by her husband George, children Martha (Joel) Ermis of Pacifica, CA, Diane (Jeff) Bemis of Appleton, WI and Tom (Krista) Holland of Appleton, WI, grandchildren Megan (Jim) Testin, Jenna (Tom) Ziemer, Kyle (Brittany) Bemis, Ted Holland, Drew Holland and Matthew Holland, great-grandchildren Anna, Mae and Nora Testin, Henry and Eddie Ziemer and Baby Bemis due soon. She is also survived by her siblings Richard (Vi) Wilhelm, Dana (Robert) Colburn, Julie (Mike) Kettner and Sue (Al) Avestruz. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Don Wilhelm.
Marlene’s family would like to thank the staffs of Nekoosa Court and Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care given to her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Holland Family Baseball Scholarship Fund or to Alzheimer’s Research.
